Bill Powers Plane Crash Talk (Tuesday 6:30pm)

On October 2, 1957 an Army aircraft, Beaver L-20, carrying four army officers departed New York City bound for Burlington, Vermont. Their intent was to visit one their subordinate facilities there. Due to inclement weather, the plane veered from its intended route and crashed in the mountains of Chittenden, Rutland County, Vermont. An extensive search located the site 10 days later. There were no survivors.
About fifty years later, the family of the deceased pilot wanted to know where their father and grandfather had lost his life in service of his country. This presentation summarizes the quest and efforts to locate the long lost crash site, despite every official report providing the wrong location. The years of search efforts and the final unconventional method used to locate the crash site and the peace that was brought to the pilot’s family is the essence of the presentation.
